Froggy’s Popcorn was founded by Popcorn Mel as a way to express her creativity and as a way to give back to her community. 25 cents from each bags sold is always donated to local animal shelters. But after an unprecedented year, Popcorn Mel wanted to do some major morale boostingfor our teachers. So during Teachers Appreciation Week, she decided to give back the only way she knew how—with yummy, gourmet popcorn!
Teacher Appreciation Week happened the week after Derby, May 3-7. As a way to say thank you to the extraordinary educators who have worked tirelessly through the COVID- 19 pandemic, Popcorn Mel headed out with the Snack Shack to suprise teachers and staff at 4 different schools in the Jefferson County Public School District. The Snack Shack pulled into schools all across our community including Maupin Elementary, Watson Lane Elementary, Coleridge-Taylor Elementary, and Roosevelt Perry Elementary. Each school staff member was invited to receive a free bag of Froggy’s Farmhouse Cheddar Cheese or Old Fashioned Caramel. The choice was not a difficult one but it’s safe to say our teachers crave the sweeter side of life, overwhelmingly enjoying our Old Fashioned Caramel Gourmet Popcorn.
Popcorn Mel says, “Our teachers are the backbone of our communities, and after this long year of adjusting to COVID restrictions with our children… they deserve an extra treat. Seeing their surprised faces was the best feeling in the world.”
While JCPS is on a shortened schedule due to COVID-19, Popcorn Mel was happy that she could bring some smiles to teachers and administrators . Teachers have an important role in all our lives and they should feel appreciated., This one act of kindness will hopefully show teachers that we care about them and the work they are doing for the community.
